Thank you for your desire to serve as a guest speaker and for agreeing to share your expertise or experience at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Green Valley. In order to avoid last-minute difficulties, please review these Guidelines for Rotary Speakers. If you have any questions please contact Mike Peterson, Program Chair, at 702-839-6399or Club President Terry Perkins, at 217-549-8900.
We usually meet each Thursday morning at Wildhorse Golf Club, which is located at 2100 Warm Springs Road, just east of Green Valley Parkway in Henderson, NV. Until the COVID-19 PandemicOur members start to arrive at about 6:45 am. Meetings begin promptly at 7:00 am. and conclude at 8:15 am. You are our guest – so when you arrive, please announce you are the speaker and don’t pay for your breakfast!
A member of our Program Committee will introduce you. We do ask that you provide us with any special introduction information you wish used, (well before the event date, if possible). This will enable us to correctly announce your presentation topic on our club’s website calendar, publish it in our newsletter, and also give you a proper introduction at the meeting.
The guest speaker is introduced at approximately 7:40 am. Club members expect our speakers to make a 20 – 25 minute presentation, followed by a few minutes of questions and answers. If possible, we will adjust our starting time to allow for your needs. Please let the Program Chair or the club President know if you require additional time, so we can plan our other meeting activities accordingly.
Your presentation MUST end promptly by 8:10 am. Many members have to leave for work and extending a meeting is not possible. If you have time, feel free to stay after the meeting and meet with our members who wish to stay longer and ask questions.
Our club has approximately 35 – 45 members and guests in attendance at any given meeting. Handouts for club members are welcome. However, there are no copy facilities in the meeting room, so you will need to bring any handouts that are required for your presentation. The club does have audio-visual technology available. Presenters occasionally use computers of their own, and we have a projector to connect to your laptop. A screen is in the meeting room. A DVD and TV are available with advance notice. Please let the Program Chair know if you have specific needs and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Your presentation must avoid overt sales. Making a “sales pitch” or Directly soliciting purchases or donations is not in the spirit of Rotary. Presentations should not promote a specific business or its services and presentations should be non-political and non-sectarian unless you have been invited specifically for that purpose. Our policy does not allow anyone running for political office to address the club within 90 days prior to an election, so as to avoid campaign speeches.
Requests for donations from the club as a whole need to be made to the Board of Directors in writing, as opposed to being solicited from the members during your presentation. You may present a request to the Board to consider at the next regularly scheduled board meeting.
We look forward to your visit and your presentation.
